Your stay – Conventional and ambulatory surgery

The hospital has 5 beds for in-patient surgery and 20 beds for out-patient surgery. These two sectors are located at the second and first floor of Building B, respectively.

In-patient surgery room

Hospitalized patients are those with medical (uveitis work up, treatment with steroids bolus …) or surgical eye conditions (surgical retina, cataract, glaucoma…). The ophthalmologists in our department personally take care of their patients under the supervision of the department head chief.

Conventional surgery

The team consists of an administrator, nurses dedicated to ophthalmology, nurse aids, a hospital secretary for the reception at the entrance and a general secretary.

In case of conventional surgery, the hospital admission procedure is usually done in the afternoon and discharge takes place in the morning.

Ambulatory surgery

Patients hospitalized in out-patient surgery are operated leave the hospital the same day if there are no contra indications. This concerns the majority of cataract surgeries, interventions of the eyelids, or rapid interventions requiring a short general anesthesia in children.

The team consists of an administrator, nurses dedicated to ophthalmology, nurse aids and two secretaries.

In the service of ambulatory surgery, timing of entry is specified on the day before the intervention based on the time of scheduled surgery. Discharge time is set by the anaesthesiologist.
